Email Privacy Act Discussed in Congress

Did you know that in the United States, law enforcement agencies can obtain emails without a warrant if they have been stored electronically for more than 180 days? The proposed Email Privacy Act seeks to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act and to limit warrantless searches of email records. The bill has left committee in the Senate and currently has 181 co-sponsors in the House, so look out for more discussion in the coming months!
