At the University of Ottawa, a private conversation that is sexually violent is publicized

This story is really fascinating from a privacy perspective. A University of Ottawa student leader received an anonymous screenshot of a private facebook conversation between five male students where they made sexually violent comments about her. She decided to go public with the story despite threats of legal action from the male students. I'm interested to know about the legal rights of both parties.
